Dear Lists,
I am putting the finishening touches to the profile of
Catherine Kearney (Marquis of Cornwallis 1796) amd I was wondering if anyone
on the list has written anything about her. There is not much on her in
official records but I have managed to come up with some interesting
information about her life and her property along the Hobart Rivulet, where
she had her dairy farm until she died in 1830. I am only covering her
arrival in NSW and being sent to NI for 11 years before sailing to Hobart
Town on the Lady Nelson in 1808, and her two sons William and Thomas.
I have heard some wonderful oral stories about Catherine (like swimming the
River Derwent) and I am sure there are some more out there.
Catherine's profile will be a feature in 2008 when I will conduct excursions
on the Lady Nelson. Some of Catherine's descendants are considering hiring
the ship for a family reunion around March 2008. Other who came between
1807-1813 will also be mentioned.
