I have been subscribed to this list since about 1997
I have seen the good the bad, Hi Ken :) and now the ugly side of this list.

There was nothing in what Bloggs' wrote that could not be read by your
most vapid maiden Aunt.
Bloggs wrote only 7 words and a colon, viz "I think Joe has a good
point:" Did you not notice that he was quoting from a previous post
to this list made by and entirely differnt poster?

Can I please ask that you look outside the square, to others looking in we
must look like some spoilt brats.
I have seen Chris Bryce, Cher, Jenny Fawcett and many others helping
countless people, myself included, Thank you all
To those that say the lookups are too frequent, I have relied on this list

By the message source info (and for other reasons too),
I would say that the ID's of 'Fred Bloggs', 'Joe Blow'
and also 'John Mamfe' and 'Who cares', are all the
same user.

out the properties souce info. Do you know how to do it as I'db e

for years, my own family tree consissted of about only 30 tree when I
started. It now numbers in the 780 to 800. I have solved a family mystery
that was hidden for many years. Like most of you I have also made some good
on line friends and have helped others when the need arises.
If I may suggest, keep the lookup results coming on line to the list, You
may be helping more than one person at a time.

8>< snipped but read and agreed with.
Over the last couple of days I've seen a lot of posts about the
quantity of look ups, how the group/list has gone sour and that there
are no relevant discussions. I've also seen a lot of people stamping
their feet and throwing their dummies out of the pram.
I've seen similar posts on other (non-genealogical) groups and the
response is always the same: "Start an on topic discussion!! Post
something appropriate.". I can only echo that. By continually
posting the same sort of "and me" comments, those doing so are only
contributing to the very kind of thing they are complaining about!
That said, I've also seen a lot of on topic posts as well, yes, some
have been asking for look ups, but not all. I wouldn't mind betting a
perusal of the archives would show that there are periods when the
bias is towards look ups and others when the bias is towards
discussions. These things are cyclical.
Those who are going off in a huff should remember the test for
indispenability: Put you hand in a bowl of water and move your hand
around, then take it out and watch the ripples. Those ripples
represent how indispensible you are.

I have also noticed that alot of people no longer advertise their surnames
they are researching, why not? This is one way of meeting more family
members on the net.
Enough Said
Thanks again to all the helpers over the years, I am staying on line
