Hello Listers

This is not family research related but there is an element - that is I have lost all my photos in "My Pictures", including many ancestors, churches, graves, towns, etc. Plus all contemporary ones.

A relative emailed 2 images - one a photo, the other a birth certificate. They had not been reduced so were quite large - I clicked on the certificate "Save Picture As" it opened "My Pictures", then the whole thing disappeared into the ether. I have searched and prodded and prayed, they are not accessable.

Any computer wiz able to suggest where I could find them without pulling the hard, drive, screen and the whole room to pieces.

I can't say "cheers", but kind regards

David J Grimshaw...
Hi Joanne,

Paul Blair...
This may be all too late, but hunt around for and download a copy of
ZTreeWin. This is the disk utility that M$ didn't provide!

ZTW will show you every file on your disk in one view. You can sort by
file extension, eg .jpg and look for "missing" stuff. Invaluable in the
circumstances.

If you have any problems, contact me direct.

Re my post # 14...... Why would one bother to help others, if this your
response to my post . I wont bother in the future.
But heed my advice on hard drives as it may come back to bite you in
the future.

My post was on 21st October,as Jan in the list of reply's, with all
intentions of making you feel better not being smart as we do not loose
our detail on our computers, this is what your remark was ....(Any
computer wiz able to suggest where I could find them without pulling
the hard, drive, screen and the whole room to pieces.) maybe directed
at my advice to you... sorry if you miss read my post.

Barry Graham...
I don't think Joanne knew you were a computer wiz - It was just a
request to keep it simple.
Following your last five repetitive posts I would never have guessed. ;)

Jan...
Sorry Barry,

Not in this group to upset people only to help. obiviously no needed.

Happy searching
Jan

I will admit that at the age of 68 I do build computers and maybe my
knowledge is not what this all about and as I said I will refrain from
further posts of help. So let it Go!!!!!! that's fine with me.,

Ken Gibb...
The odd response brings a "spit the dummy"
response methinks.
Assist with help but try to be gracious with it.
Computer wizzes are few to find.

I may need help sometime, but like Joanne, my knowledge,
"she ain't great", and may not ask the question as "liked" by those
much more gifted.
So bear with us please.

Ken

So you did not back up your data, Oh boy.
IMHO it sounds as if you need to make a policy of Backing up your vital
data on a regular basis.
Hard Drives are also known to fail even when only a few months old.
I have had this happen and when it did happen I thanked my lucky stars
that I did have backups of my data, sure I lost some but at least I did
not have to start from scratch again.
I now back up my vital Data in a website mode onto a USB hard drive that
is switched on and used for that back up at the end of each week and at
the end of the Month I then burn the latest information onto a DVD as I
now have to much to fit onto a CD.
The DVD is taken to work and stored in my work desk as to the obsolete
DVD, that I am yet to decide on.

By the way if you are using XP you ought to be able to roll back to
prior to the e-mail being sent.
As to how you do this that I do not know but their ought to be
information available online regarding this matter.
Hope this has is of some help to you.
David

Ron...
Windows expects several people to be using a computer so allows
different user id.
So there may well be several My Pictures folders on your machine.
I expect the Save of the email went into Default user or something like
that so you have the new stuff in one My Pictures and your archive in
another My Pictures.

From My Computer click open the hard drive and then the folder
Documents and Settings and check each of the various user folder groups.

Alternatively download Picasa from web-search and it will catalogue all
graphics for you
