Is there anyone on the list who is experienced in the early history and
settlement of Victor Harbour?

My GGG Grandfather George MISSEN arrived with his family in 1854 and
bought the "Fountain Inn" in Victor Harbor in 1861 then built the "Crown
Hotel" there in 1864.
Another GGG Grandfather John BARTON was a whaler in Victor Harbor and
John's father died there at age of 115 years.
My great grandmother was born there in 1863.
One excellent source of information is:-
"Settlers Around the Bay"
"The Pioneering Families of
Encounter Bay and Victor Harbor"
written by Anthony Laube
Gillingham Printers Pty. Ltd.
ISBN 0 959 2827 18
No doubt out of print but the library in Victor Harbor has copies.
Other reference that I haven't read is:- "The Story of Victor Harbor" ;
Strempel and Tolley, 1965; Ambrose Press
The State Library of South Australia has some excellent early photos of
Victor Harbor from the Mortlock Collection online.

A replica of the 'Duyfken' is making stops at Australian ports later this
year and the steering committee would like to hear from anyone experienced
in the early history of Victor Harbour, as they need valid information for
their website
which will list information on the ports where the Duyfken will stop.
I am happy to volounteer information for the Port Fairy stopover, but
thought we might have a lister who knows well the history of Victor Harbour
who might be able to help.
They basically need to know who first put Victor Harbour on the map, who
were the first european settlers, who the early natives were in that region,
and perhaps some civic information, such as who designed the town there etc.
They are only looking for basic facts, and don;t need a lengthy history.
So if you can 'donate' some basic info I will be happy to send it on to the
head of the steering committee
My work is volountary.
cheers
