Hello all,

I have just borrowed, hot off the presses, the
book "Printers of the Streets and Lanes of
Melbourne (1837 - 1975) by Don Hauser. This is
basically the history of the printing industry in
Melbourne.

Its index does include names so if anybody feels
that their descendent may be mentioned then I will
happily look it up and give you some details that

My nearest mate was a neighbour, who left school early to start an
apprenticeship with MFM (Mason Firth and McCutcheon). I think they were
in Bank Place.

This was the 50s, and in my school holidays, we used cycle from
Caulfield to the city (about 10km) and I would spend some or all of the
day there.

It was a dark and dirty cavern - I was allowed to resort type, which
made me very grubby. But, MFM did most of Melbourne's "posh"
invitations, and to see a pile of clean, sparkling cards was a joy to
behold.

Later in the 60s (I think) they moved south to somewhere - maybe
Cheltenham?

it has about this person or firm.

I have the book till July 27 approx.

Hi Pat, I would appreciate any ref to mentions of the name
McCutcheon. AIUI McCutcheon or McC and Somebody were printers and
stationers in Melbourne late in the C19,

Many thanks, Jan
