Dutch speaking site

Hello all,

Am I right in thinking that this is a Dutch/Flemmish speaking site, and
would it be better if I look for another site that has messages posted in
English?

However, since most people use Dutch in this group and not everyone
will understand english, there;s a change that someone who is in the
know of the things you request, but doesn't speak english or who is

If you see such messages, I'll be happy to translate - either from English
to Dutch, or Dutch to English. This offer is of course valid for everyone
who posts here. Just don't ask me to translate a whole book in one sitting,
please....

reluctant to post in english will never be able to respond. You could
post here and ask if somenone will translate your posting to Dutch.
It will be difficult for you to follow the threads in Dutch, but I
guess after a while you'll recognize postings with a bearing to you
quite easily and you could request translations then.

If your heritage has roots in the Benelux, you will soon be confronted
with written records in Dutch, anyhow. This group might also be
helpfull in interpretating and translating these records. A lot of
knowledge and experience on genealogy in the Benelux is being brought
together in this group. We all share the passion of genealogical
research in the Benelux in this group. If we maintain a flexible
attitude to practical things like the language you want to use, we'll
be succesfull in sharing knowledge on genealogical issues in the
Benelux. If you go to another group, you'll be missing a lot of
interesting info and we will be missing information you might have for
us. So please continue to post in this group.

Mijn excuses, ik bedoel de Nederlandssprekenden.

Als de "bijna OP" van deze hele happening [andere draad/thread] kan ik
jullie melden, dat het ging om een posting zonder subject, waar ik
adviseerde voortaan het subject te vermelden, gaande over een
familienaam in Antwerpen.

Voorts dat de gebruikelijke taal hier Nederlands was, maar dat een
mededeling dat de OP slechts(?) het Engels machtig was ook voldoende was.
De benodigde excuses werden door mij uitdrukkelijk gesmilied.

De talen van het benelux grondgebied is voor de voertaal van deze groep
m.i. niet belangrijk, een tread kan in het Russisch of Bahasa Indonesia
gevoerd worden, meen ik, het onderwerp is eerder de beperkende factor.

Dat de "officiële" taal Engels is, was mij als s.g.b. poster sinds 1996,
niet bekend, een omissie van mijn kant. In de praktijk wordt echter
Engels en Frans is een miniem aantal gevallen gebruikt, en het Letzeburgs
en Fries ben ik nog niet tegengekomen hier. Afrikaans wel, maar ik dacht
alleen in aanhalingen.
