Rosemary Relf...
On 23rd May 1860 Frans van der Hoek married Klara van der Hucht. Frans had
previously been married to Wilhelmina Apolonia Schaap, who died. In 1874
Frans and his family moved from Dordrecht to Newcastle, England. Some time
afterwards they moved to Camberwell, a district of south London. Their son
Barend was my great-grandfather.

Frans van der Hoek, born 08-04-1825 Dordrecht
Wilhelmina Apolonia Schaap, born Leiden, died 13-10-1859 Dordrecht
Klara van der Hucht, born 03-08-1833 Dordrecht

along with Johannes van der Hoek * 1793, Hendrika * 1797, Hendrik * 1801,
etc. The earliest is Johanna Maria born 1790 in The Hague, so did they
come from there?
Parents of Johannes, Hendrika and Hendrik were Johannes van der Hoek
and Johanna Borgonje (different spellings, see site stadsarchief).

Now we really know something. Searching with web-search for "van der Hoek"
Borgonje, we find the right family site, owned by Frans van den Hoek
(see his e-mail address on the homepage):
"Van der/n Hoek, a family of basket-makers"
Jo(h)annes van der Hoek
married 17 Sep 1796 Dordecht Johanna Bourgonje/Borgon/Borgonje etc.
first child in The Hague, five more in Dordrecht.

And now you can find your Frans on
He was the son of Hendrik * 1801, basket-maker, and Hendrika van Meteren.

Based on this information if anyone has any information that would help me
discover the roots of the van der Hoek family in Dordrecht I would be
grateful. I am sorry, I speak a little French and German but not Dutch, so
replies in English would be very much appreciated.
