They may have fixed the previous problem but now I appear to be getting
responses from queries I have never asked . Just had a 'contact from GR' as
opposed to a 'reply from GR' telling me

"Sorry you're out of luck this time - my Ron Clark was born in Esses."

I have a ronald clark on my tree but I've not asked a question about him and
there's no reference of any previous contact with the sender

Curious indeed

Genesreunited has a feature known as "hot matches", whereby a list of names
of other members who have the same names in their tree as you do is
generated. A "match" however is based on name and year of birth only without
regard to the place, and so most of them are utterly useless.

For example, if you have a John Smith born Outer Hebrides 1900, he will be
matched with all John Smiths born 1900 anywhere in the world.

Some users of Genesreunited are, unfortunately, not sufficiently
sophisticated to realise that the "hot match" list is machine generated, and
therefore send replies to those they think have contacted them.

I would hazard a guess that Ron Clark has shown up on someone's hot match
list, they have misinterpreted the machine generated message as being from
you personally, and have replied to it.

Also there is a limit on the number of "hot matches" sent to you so if
you have a large number of names in your tree then you might only get
"hot matches" beginning with "A" and "B".
