Can anyone tell me if there are any records or registers available to the
public in which changes of name by Deed are shown?

IMU the only "records" immediately in public by intention are when the
event has been advertised in e.g. newspapers, the actual paperwork
being the private property of the person concerned or of the legal
practice performing the work, in some cases the records from the
latter passing into local archives but with access often restricted by
age of records.

A change of name by Deed Poll may be registered at the Central Office
of the Supreme Court, but such registration is voluntary, it costs
money, and most solicitors advise their clients not to bother, so most
people don't. I have never found any information about these records
online. As Stan indicated, such changes are often adverised in the
London Gazette, but, again, this is voluntary, and many people don't
bother.

I changed mine by deed poll in 1978.....does that mean I will
be hard to find? I doubt any solicitor I went to would have
officially told anyone.

I know soimeone who added to and rearranged her given names by Deed
Poll as a teenager. When she married, she was named on the marriage
record as " formerly ".

I have the birth name of a man and also his new name after it was changed,
but am trying to narrow down the time when he actually changed his name. It
could have been anytime within a 27 year period. Is there a closure date on
such records?
Similarly, I have a nephew who had his name changed by his mother when he
was a small child and she has now lost the original document, although the
covering letter which accompanied it is to hand so we know the date etc, but
he would like a copy of his Deed of Change Name and we have no idea where to
apply for it.
