I wonder, please, if someone has a spare few moments if
they could check Richard Bisbey born c. 1802 on the 1871
census and see if they recognise the place of birth? Ancestry
have indexed it as Siberalm but I doubt it is that as I can't find
anything remotely like it. I would have offered a link but I can't
remember how to do it.

Appalling writing. No luck.
But in 1861 he appears as Ricard Bisby born Gibraltar
Then looking at 1871 that makes sense.
Ancestry, in its indexing incorrectly added "Staffordshire'
to Gibraltar. That is NOT on the image.
The 1851 shows him as Richard BRISBY born Gibraltar British

How on earth did you find him on the 1851? - I have been
searching for months !

Lateral thinking !!!
After establishing Gibraltar as birthplace I simply searched
for Richards born Gibraltar. Obviously that couldn't have
been done before today.

I must try to get to grips with the varying search options.

I've been doing genealogy for a year now.....and I still don't
know what I'm doing !

LOL nor do mI
I started asking my grandparents in about 1950
then let it rest and then have been pretty much full time since
about November 2000
But I am an utter newbie compared with many of the denizens here who
have been doing genealogy 30 years or more with books and articles
printed in all directions
"get some in "

I need to worry......I'm think I've done Richard and the
Gibralter thing already.....yet I couldn't immediately be
sure. But at least I gained him on the 1851 census
which I didn't have before.

Thank Jeff.....I am really cross that it never occured to me
to check the other censuses....must have been having a
brain fog.
