Calm down and take a powder! As Liz says, you don't tell us where you've looked, so
how can we possibly help?

I can tell you for starters that there were 180 FREEMANs in Norwich in the 1881 census
of Britain (source, the Surname Atlas CD). The 1881 census is free at

Have you tried these resources?

FreeBMD (GRO Indexes, mostly up to 1911)
1837online (GRO Indexes up to 2004, plus 1861 and 1891 censuses online and other
databases)
Ancestry (online censuses and many other databases)
The National Archives documentsonline (should have the medal card index for your
grandfather).

Ancestry charges an annual subscription and 1837online is a pay-per-view service (you
buy units), but genealogy costs money, just like any other hobby.

It sounds to me as if you are flailing around in the dark not knowing what you''re doing. I
recommend reading a decent book on how to trace your family history (or see my
Newbies' Guide, address below). It will help you more than going to a psychiatrist!
