David J...
This issue has probably come up many times before, but I can't see it
in the archives......

Doing a search for a marriage using freebmd, I found that this
marriage was recorded twice in the Index in the Dec quarter of 1862.

Assuming that it was a transcription error I used the freebmd image
facility and found that the event was duplicated in the Index also.

Peter Goodey...
In that case, enter both page numbers on the certificate order form with a
note to the effect that it was shown twice in the index.

Detail: William John Hull & Emma Elston Hooper. Dec 1862. Shoreditch
1c 522, and 1c 524.

Image refs: Hooper 1862M4-H-0178, Hull 1862M4-H-0220.

Before I purchase these certificates, does anyone have any idea why a
marriage might have been performed twice in the same Quarter?

C Rihan...
I came across a similar thing.
I didn't actually buy the certificates as it wasn't my direct line, but
I did look throught The Times for that quarter, and found that the couple
had had one cereminy in one church and then straight to another.
Seems like they wanted a Roman Catholic ceremony too, and
both were reigsitered.

If you do purchase both, it would be interesting to know whether
you had different information.
eg Were the names of the witneses tha same?

Best wishes
C.Rihan
