going to be at the SOG family history fair today as well

Sorry... I spotted you deep in conversation with someone, but
I was easily distracted by looking for useful stuff on the stalls
and when I turned around you had disappeared.
|
I really enjoyed the four lectures
supposedly for beginners
but I gathered some nuggets of information even about subjects I know
faily well
a bit like pre-exam revision and brushing up my knowledge
a mini report
me with the red shirt which is in the wash so grey today

You are Father Christmas and I claim my 5 pounds!
Seriously, Hugh - every year I think about going and then decide that there
won't be much for those of use who have no english ancestry. In your
opinion, would it be worth my heading over one year?

There's a list here of the exhibitors, which might give you an idea.
As you can see, one was the Scottish Genealogy Society.
They had quite a big display there.
Then there are those which sold books and others sold
items for storage of certificates. photos, etc.

I went to the scottish genealogy which gave me much better background
knowledge

Steve Anderson, the major familysearch.org expert, has come 5 000 miles
to be there
afterwards I walked through three royal parks
I was thrilled by the tame grey squirrel that climbed up and touched my
hand in order to sniff my mobile phone - not edible :-(

Nice squirrel photo....the digital camera I use tends to be slower
than me and the squirrel. I press the button, the squirrel moves
and then the camera takes the photo of the grass.

yes it was with my sony eriksson phonecam
and I missd several better shots
I have 107 photos from the actual day and lots of insider gossip
I like posting them in a big string as a sort of chart of my walks
but on reflection I better divide them into sections
I missed Roy too but he nabbed me on the very steps as I was leaving for
mywalk to the tate
he was on the Yorkshire FHS and SOG stands he said
my MObTime software for down or uploading mobile phone stuff is cheap
and excellent but gets indigestion if over about 75 images at a time
so I have to reboot to continue to get rid of some garbage
9 hours on trains and 4 hours on busues means I am still a bit tired
so ther e should be more blogged around midnight

Hugh -
Such a shame that one no longer sees real squirrels any longer in the
south of England, only the grey American tree rat. The last time I had a

Tell that to my cats, who regularly chase the little devils which invade
the barn and the house even. Tree rats, that's what they are, chewing
holes in barge boards and making nests in the insulation.

The pregnant female grey squirrel who squatted in my roof space
(directly above my office) gave birth to 5 offspring who immediately
took up clog-dancing and singing out of tune, like a very bad music-hall
act.
I found on the Internet a sample of a male grey squirrel's warning cry,
played it loud and scared them out long enough to block re-entry.
They hung around the neighbourhood for a season. I grew fond of a couple
of them. The languid one who liked to hang upside down from the fence
while meditatively munching the petals of white roses .... we called him
Oscar.... My favourite tho' was the one who on sighting a human would
give a little fainting scream and clap one hand to his bosom .... that
one was called Dicky Ticker

Apart from Brownsea Island and the Isle of Wight, I gather there have been
succesful efforts to re-introduce them to the New Forest and other areas.

conversation with a red squirrel was on Tayside about five years ago;
very talkative it was too, we remained about two feet apart for about

Hugh -
Being the somewhat dyslexic person that I am I have been scratching my
head for the past twenty four hours wondering what gave so many listers
(wrongly) the impression I had great dancing prowess, going through
sets, reels and coming to no conclusion. I have just realised my
spelling has caused the merriment, (which I am all for), but do have a
care, for my conversation with the red squirel took place near the venue
of that infamous Ball of Kirriemuir. I have a feeling the list has been
there before, as I believe I remember that Eve knows all 195 verses of it.
Was not the minuet in favour at the time of Rev. Sydney Smith, (and
also, of course, Adm. Sir Sydney Smith)?
Yours Aye Andrew Sellon
At Lady Granville’s Ball; nothing can be more superb. ... The prettiest
girl in the room was Miss Rumbold, the (step) daughter of (Adm.) Sir
Sydney Smith. Rev. Sydney Smith 1771-1854, Canon of St. Paul's. Letter
(from Paris) to Mrs. Sydney Smith, 27^th April 1826.

didn't all that dancing tire you out?

About forty years ago there were still some reds in Suffolk on the
Shotley peninsular, where I ocassionly saw them, but all gone now.
