Systematic Errors

Chris J Dixon...
As a novice I am reaching the point in my research when I have to
go beyond census and certificates, and have been looking at IGI
extracted records to point me towards the next stage.

I am fully aware that these have to be treated with caution, but
was surprised to find what appears to be a systematic error, or
have I simply got confused?

I have been working on the Booth family, found on:
1841: HO107/1324/8/44/13
1851: HO107/2334/364/7,
1861: RG9/3455/42/4
Noting particularly the twins Mary and Martha.

I now have birth certificates for both Martha and Eliza (my
gGrandmother), confirming the mother as Mary Booth, formerly
Taylor.

Oddly, IGI shows Ann's mother as Mary Taylor Armitage (Christened
14 May 1837 C042481), similarly for Martha & Mary (Christened 30
June 1845 C042482). Other siblings have similar records, but
with "I" references, not extractions.

There is also a marriage between Charles and Mary Taylor Armitage
(10 March 1834 M04281).

Steven Gibbs...
Mary Taylor Armitage was illegitimate, mother Sarah Armitage. When an
illegitimate child is named like that, it is highly probable that her
father's name was Taylor. The IGI also shows a marriage of Sarah
Armitage to Edward Taylor in 1828. So, maybe Edward Taylor was Mary's
father, or perhaps it's just coincidence. Whatever, assuming that's the
correct Sarah Armitage, Mary grew up with a (step-)father called Taylor
and was quite likely known informally as Mary Taylor.

Chris J Dixon...
There are a couple of Edward and Sarah Taylors locally in the
1841 census. HO107/1325/12/14/20 however, also shows Mary, but
MTA is already married and in HO107/1324/8/44/13, so perhaps
HO107/1324/11/3/2 (and continued over) is a better match. I
can't make out the location, and these sheets seem to have been
displaced from their proper place.

Chris J Dixon...
OK, I've found the same family in 1851, and it is Chevet Lodge.

Any thoughts?

Chris J Dixon...
Thanks for that, I had missed Mary's christening. I see the birth
is shown as 1812, but she wasn't christened until Feb 1834,
presumably in order to permit her marriage later that year.
Plenty for me to look into I reckon.

Bedford.

I sort of expected random inaccuracies, but this seems to be more
than that.

Any thoughts, other than find my local FHC and get some films
ordered?
