My ancestor was born in 1789 but I don't know her parents.
I've found a likely candidate for her baptism in the IGI. It
gives parents but because I am not sure if it is my ancestor's
family I sent off for the mother's will from Cheshire
Record Office. Unfortunately it doesn't help. The mother

made the will in 1802, she died in 1814 and probate was
issued in 1823. My ancestor who may or may not be her
daughter married in 1811 and I was hoping the mother would
mention her daughter's married name which would prove it.
Wasn't till the will arrived through post that I found it was
made in 1802 when daughter still a child.

The will says daughter will receive her share when aged
21 in 1809. Are there any more documents which might

Hey, be positive. You've got a girl of the right age!

Where there's a will, there may be way, way more of 'em. Lots of relatives
who may mention her married name, names of siblings, etc..

A good tip is to look for wills a year or so before or after marriage. An
inheritance, or promise of one, would put her in the marriage market.

shed more light on this. I've got the note about probate
issued in 1823 - no help. Would there have been any
other financial records still around in record offices?
