DI Owens...
If a woman were to remarry, which surname would appear in the indeces
for the second marriage? Would it be her maiden name or the name she
had from the first marriage?

Brenda Orsler...
My Gt.Grandfather married an Elizabeth ANDREWS.
I could not find the marriage index.
I found it eventually under Elizabeth THOMASON.
Elizabeth Andrews had married before she married my Gt.Grandfather
So in this case it was the persons married name that appeared as opposed
to the maiden name.
Brenda

Charani...
Usually her previous married name.

David J Grimshaw...
Hi Di,
I suspect the you mean the English GRO index's.
It can be either so it pays to check both.
If she married a SMITH for example you could just about bet on a
Certainty that she will remarry under the SMITH Surname, you know
Murphy's law.

Some relations like hiding from us, it is up to use to find them.
Makes interesting reading for future generations.
