Here's someone whose children are going to have trouble tracking their
ancestry:

If they're ever into genealogy, they'll follow a completely wrong line
or be thrown by the fact that their father was supposed to have died a
year after birth. They're more likely to think that there were two
and one has been missed off the index.

The guy's been living a lie for so long that few people possibly know
who he really is anyway. What I'd like to know is how they got onto

There would be a strong case for them to demand a sample of his DNA to be
stored somewhere safe for their future reference should they want to !!!!

You know what they say - hard cases make bad law.

They say that, I don't know, 20% of children are not actually the children
of the father on their birth certificate. What you are advocating in a
broader sense is certainly going to open up a can of worms.

True and I see your point
but as DNA testing can be done privately it is something that his kids
should be able to demand of their father as the least he could do for them
It may be years or never before they get something near an answer but at
least the sample would be there for them to get some independant
corroboration with

Mind you on your earlier point -
maybe the fact of kids getting easy access to parent checking in the future
might possibly create a little smidgen more respect for the act of creating
the little darlings in the first place?????/
