Lionel...
Group,

In the Wotton Under Edge (W-U-E) 1851 & 1861 censuses, a William SPENCER
(sorry about using that word!!!) is with his family and given as being aged

Geoff...
If my computer doesn't crash again I'll do it soon (there's a mysterious
intermittent fault I'm hoping to be able to induce repeatedly, but no luck
in the last month or so) so I might have to use somebody else's computer
again.

Thanks for your helpful thoughts.

42 and 52 respectively: he was born in GLS according to the censuses. I
cannot find him in the 1841 census nor can I find anything else about him
except what little there is on two of his children's B cert's and one of his
daughters' M cert.

In the IGI there are eight Gloucestershire William Spencers' extracted
birth/christening data. Their dates, locations and distances (using ParLoc)
from W-U-E are:-

04 AUG 1805 St Michaels, Bristol: 16.3 miles
24 APR 1805: 03 DEC 1809: 06 DEC 1812 Cheltenham: 21.7 miles
24 JUL 1808 Newland: 16.8 miles
06 MAY 1810 Duntisborne Rouse: 16.2 miles
03 FEB 1811 Coaley: 5.6 miles
22 MAY 1814 Preston Nr Dymock: 26.6 miles

I favour the Coaley William as being "mine" so, as is my methodology, I
ordered and searched LDS film 425379 (Coaley BT's) and have confirmed the
batch details for myself. But of course, I accept that that William may not
be mine, so he's not even pencilled in at the moment!

What do you think is the likelihood of the Coaley William being the 1851/61
census William in W-U-E?

I look forward to your opinions.
