Aria...
I am looking for a french woman who is likely to have emigrated to the UK
in 1920 and acquired the british nationality.

Here is what I know about her :
- she was married by a british soldier in 1919 in Paris.
- she had a baby in 1920
- I cannot find her in France.
Is there a list somewhere of people who aquired the british nationality ?

Eve McLaughlin...
Her marriage to a British husband would give her British nationality
(though a foreign man marrying a British wife did not get this
automatically then)

Thanks for your help

Charani...
If you post the person's name and also the soldier's name, it might
help someone help you to find her.

Charani...
Do you know if she had the baby in England or in France??

Don Aitken...
At that time, she would acquire British nationality automatically by
the marriage, so no naturalisation or other formal procedure would be
necessary.

Charles Ellson...
IIRC at that time she would have gained it automatically upon marriage
with no further documentation needed. Have you got any information
later than 1920 ? If not then a search in the birth indexes for a few
of the following years might show more children, the mother's maiden
surname is by then shown in the index for England and Wales and starts
to be shown from 1925[?] in Scotland, there are also further indexes
for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and for the Isle of
Man and the Channel Islands; the identity of the soldier's regiment
might give a clue to where they could have gone.
