Some time ago I decided that it would be nice to share my many and varied
family trees with the outside World, and being a subscriber to Ancestry
choose to do it via this route ... or so I thought !
So I typed lots of details into what I thought was OneWorldTree - set up
lots of links (Source) to Ancestry's copies of various censuses - and even
corrected what I thought were errors in a couple of trees submitted by other
people (I assumed it kept a separate copy from the original - with just my
changes on it). I eventually discovered that none of this was being added
into the OneWorldTree data - none of my searches found anything I had
submitted. I was then told by a very polite young man from Ancestry that I
had actually added my stuff to " My OneWorldTree" which is not stored and is
different to OneWorldTree in that it is just used to store search
information - and worse still - there appeared to be no way to convert it to
the 'real?' OneWorldTree.
What I needed to do was enter it all into 'family tree' software, convert it
to Gedcom and submit it to 'Ancestry World Tree' - this I did (well it was
all entered anyway - I just trimmed it a bit for reasons I will not go into
now) - and I submitted it - about a week ago - i.e. I uploaded the Gedcom
then proceeded with a 'submission'.
I can still see none of my stuff in searches - either as OneWorldTree
records or as Family Data records -
Can anyone explain how this works please ?
