Grum...
I have a birth certificate of George Arthur Furlong, b. May 27, 1874 in
Manchester, Lancashire, England. Registered July 1, 1874. Mother, Eliza
Furlong, formerly Holt. Father, James Furlong. Occupation, House Plasterer.

My problem is why George is listed with the surname of Bennett?

This is copied from LDS 1881 census search, (Household record).
James FURLONG M Male 32 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Plasterer

Eliza FURLONG M Female 31 Ashton On Mersey, Lancashire, England

George A. BENNETT Male 6 Manchester, Lancashire, England Scholar

Eliza F. FURLONG Female 4 Blackpool, Lancashire, England Scholar

William FURLONG Male 3 Blackpool, Lancashire, England

I also have a print out of this LDS record from an earlier search where it
listed the relationships. This one doesn't now for some reason? It listed
George as the (Son) of James (Head).

Any thoughts will be appreciated,

Anne Chambers...
It's a mis-transcription - on the image, he is just George A do Son.
the previous household was BENNETT
Image on its way to you.

Wow, that was quick. That's another one solved.
Thank you so much 'again' Anne,

Hugh Watkins...

Grum...
You sound very well organised Hugh but I'm afraid that I'm still finding my
way around all this genealogy stuff.
When I get time, I do make trips to the library and history centre here at
Penrith but I must admit if they do have access to British 1881 census
images then I have not yet come across them.
So far I have paid for a dozen certificates or so and as I get further into
it all and hopefully more organised, I will probably subscribe to somewhere
like Anne does to access more things on line. Just got to find what will
suit me best I suppose.

Graham - the 1881 census is free on the internet through

A. Gwilliam...
I'm guessing you meant familysearch.org? However, that site only has
transcriptions, not images.

Hugh Watkins...
Family History Center which has an internet connectikon

to get a username and password they should contact the distribution
center from which they get their film,

Graham...
Yes thanks for that. I have since subscribed to Ancestry.com.au to get all
1841-1901 England census available. Now we're getting somewhere.
