Sandy...
I'm stuck with one of my lineages.
My g-grand father Joseph Bean, as written on some documents, fumed when he
was actually called Bean. He would correct saying "My name ain't Bean, it's
Bain" or something that souded alike. I didn't kow him of course but one of
his grand children who is over 80 now told me. He also told me that Jos
claimed to be a scots and a sailor. Jos also told that he had two sisters,
Celina and Julia. Jos was illeterate.

I made lots of researches on him and his family and found almost nothing
except a sole american census dated 1870 where I've found a Beans family
where Jos, Celina (written Salina) and Julia are listed and where Jos is the
same age as my g-grand is supposed to be.

So, I assumed that that was THE family.

On that census, the head of family is Archibald Beans, wife is Ellen, they
have 5 children aged from 7 to 22 and all of them are listed as canadians.

I tried to find any occurence of any of the family names in canadian lists
or lineages without success.

If Jos was right in saying they were scots, I figure that maybe the family
or only Archibald, or maybe him and his wife Ellen, could have coasted on
the continent at Newfoundland, which was not part of Canada yet (before
1865) and it could be the reason why I can't see them anywhere in Canada.

Now, is there a way to find Archie w/wo his family on a list of departures
from UK for their colony of Newfoundland, or broader, for the american
continent in the 1800-1865 period ?
