Retired...
I have posted a number of photos on my web site of a soldier whom I believe
to be my father whom I understood served in the Machine Gun Corps. However

Anne Chambers...
I believe the trick is to look at the ears, which don't change as much
as the face might - certainly they seem to be the same in each
photograph, so I think the photos are all of the same person.

the cap badge in the first photograph is certainly not the MGC badge. Can
anyone identify the badge?
There is also a photo of a soldier with a different type of headgear (what's
it called?)

Also a photo taken at Clipstone Camp, Mansfield in 1916 of a group of
soldiers 5 from a Scottish Regiment, and two wearing caps of different
regiments.
Finally three photos of (I think) the same soldier, two in England and one
in Germany.

Have a look at this postcard on ebay:

The cap badges look very similar, if not the same.

As for Highlanders in the Midlands, I know someone in the Seaforth
Highlanders Association band - they are playing twice next week in
Leics. for Armistice day.
He told me that the Seaforths lost so many men in the early part of WW1
that they took in some minor regiments or divisions from Leics and Notts
to make up their numbers, hence the association of Pipe Bands still
playing in Leicestershire.
A quick online search doesnt prove this link, but I'm assured it is
true.
Alan.

Please have a look at my web pages and see if you can help.

Don Phillipson...
The peaked cap is Service Dress headdress,
commonly called SD cap. The one with the
chequered band is a bonnet. The lance-corporal
and four others wear a tam or tam-o-shanter.

C Rihan...
Yes, I would say that I think it is the same soldier in the photss.
and I think likely to be the soldier with in the rear row in the group
photo.

However another person I showed the photos too, thought that he
was more like the other man in the middle of the rear row.

Best wishes
