Jenny M Benson...
I have come across the abbreviation "FS" in the occupation column
several times in the 1841 Census.

At first I thought it stood for Farm Servant, but have now seen it a few
times where it seems unlikely that the person would have been a Farm
Servant - ie, living in an inner city or with a family not involved in
an agricultural-type occupation.

Eve McLaughlin...
Female servant (there is also MS for male servant) It is a standard
abbreviation listed in the Instructions to enumerators.

Could it indicate Family Servant? In later censuses "Domestic Servant"
is used a lot, but I have yet (admittedly in limited exploration) to
come across that in 1841. I'm fairly sure these people are Servants.

Martin Briscoe (2)...
There is a list here

Steven Gibbs...
M.S. = Male Servant
F.S. = Female Servant

They confused me when I first started looking at 1841 on film at my
library, several years ago. They are explained on the instructions
pages; unfortunately Ancestry don't provide these.

Jenny M Benson...
Another of those "Doh!" moments, here!

As it happens, I haven't come across an MS yet, or I might have twigged.
Many thanks.
