I have been researching members of a Rooke family for some friends, and they
are now interested in purchasing a copy of a marriage certificate. As far as
I understood it the name of the couple were George William Rooke and Rowena
Pratt However family talk suggests that one, or both, may have been
married before. I looked for the registration of a marriage in the 1st Qtr
1974.
Here are the results that showed:
Married
Rooke George W. Pratt Warley 9d 565
Rooke George W. Rooke Warley 9d 565
Rooke Rowena Rooke Warley 9d 565
Pratt Rowena Rooke Warley 9d 565
What can I surmise from this mixed information. Any ideas please?

Yes.
George W ROOKE married Rowena PRATT (as your information already tells you).
HOWEVER....
At the time of the Marriage, Miss PRATT had already taken to using her
future husband's surname and was otherwise known as Rowena ROOKE

What you can probably surmise from the information you gave is that
Rowena took George's name prior to marriage and was known as Rowena
Rooke.
