have a look at this link:

of 420 households 129 were refugees.

The Weavers in Canterbury was named after the large number of that
profession that settled in the city in the C16
My g.g.g.g.grandfather Josuha de Witte married in 08-07-1621 at Leiden,
the Netherlands. He, and his bride Susanna Bonderijs, were both born at
Sandwich, England. My guess is their families were among the many
refugees that left Flanders, Belgium during the 16th century.

What can I do to find out more about him (parents, birth, etc.)?
Any help would be appreciated.

A detestable country all the way from Calais to Amsterdam. Fine cities –
admirable architecture, far exceeding ours, both in their old and new
buildings – good bakers – very ugly – stink of tobacco – horses all fat
– soldiers little – inns dirty, and very expensive; - better modern
painters than we are. Rev. Sydney Smith 1771-1854, Canon of St. Paul's.
