Hello All and season's greetings,
A few weeks back I had a query regarding finding a living relative in the
UK after finding a possible connection. I responded to many who replied
but thought I would update list.
My unknown "cousin" eventually responded to my email...she was away on
vacation.....needless to say anxiety dropped and we have begun the process
of comparing notes. So to those who said wait and see, you were
right. Thank you.
and lastly a question regarding the website Lost Cousins....has anyone ever
myths...
|
I put a household on, and was "matched" a day later with someone who
had entered the same household 2 days before. (That was before one
was charged for contact. The other person knew where we fitted simply
from the fact that family had been entered - contact had only been
lost a generation ago.
Since then I've put a number of people on for whom I don't know the
descendants, and not had another match.
I suspect it is great for families whose branches have lost touch but
all include those interested in connections and happy to use the
Internet,
Not so good for finding or being found by branches that have no
interest , or know it all already.

used this site and/or heard anything about it? I could not find any
"reviews" and the intro pages are typically promotional? until you
register. Any thoughts appreciated.

I entered a family, had a match immediately on one of them, tried to
make contact and I've heard nothing, despite Lost Cousins sending this
"cousin" a reminder.
I won't bother with the site again. I'm considering removing the
information I have put up.

You probably don't mean it that way, but it does sound as though you are
blaming the site for a fault that lies with your "cousin."

It's the "cousin" that's at fault, not the site. They've even gone so
far as to send a reminder.

As I said earlier, I have yet to find a "match" on that site, but I have
found matches on other sites and tried to contact the tree owner without
success. There could be all sorts of reasons: away from home, change
of address, illness ... "Not interested" is the least likely as
otherwise why would people bother publishing their trees and the like?

I have to admit I do sometimes wonder why people do put trees up if
they aren't willing to respond to contacts. I mailed someone who
shares a line with me and I had more information than they had on the
tree. That was about six months ago and I've never heard nothing
back. OTOH, someone else I contacted about another line didn't reply
for over a year. I replied but I'm not expecting a reply any time
soon!

I have quite a lot of my family entered there. Not actually connected
with any "lost cousins" yet, but I live in hope. Why are you reluctant
to sign up and try it out? It doesn't cost anything.

I have used it, but not found it very useful. I did encounter a "cousin" who
had entered the same family, but wasn't prepared to say what their
relationship with the family was, and so remains a "lost cousin".
I've encountered such people on message boards too -- demand information, but
are not prepared to give any of their own in return, or even say who they are.
