The latest update of A2A includes material from the House of Lords Journal
Office.
There is a Writ of Error of 1647/8 that looks of interest to me. I think I
understand what a Writ of Error is, but I have no idea whether it would
include any information (of genealogical interest) other than the names of
the parties involved. I suspect not.

That would depend on the details. Normally it's an instruction from one
court to another.
web-search found his definition that refers to some BMD examples but I'm not
sure what country this relates to though....

Thanks. Yes, I'd already found that URL.
I suppose what I was probably searching for was some indication of whether a
Writ of Error would (A) be likely to include the barest details of
identification with a limited statement of what the legal issue was (which
probably wouldn't be very helpful); or (B) be likely to summarise the whole
case (which could be quite useful).
As you imply, it may be that one can't generalise and the format would
depend on the court and the case. Probably I'm just going to have to look up
the reference.
Thanks for your thoughts
Chris

Does anyone have any experience of using such writs and can tell me what
would be included therein?
