Via Nite...
I have a copy of a Certification of Registry of Birth for my Grandmother
born in 1885 at Bishop Auckland. The copy gives the name, date of birth,
date of registration, signature of the Registrar and the sub-district. I've
looked the birth up on the BMD index and I'm wondering if I order a birth
certificate from the GRO as per the Vol and page Nos will I get additional
information?

Steve Hayes...
Has usage changed?

I would have expected it to be a Certificate of Registration of Birth --
"registration" being the act of registering, and "registry" being the place
where the act took place.

In any case, it simply certifies that the act of registration (or "registry")
took place. The actual register entry would give more information, such as
names, addresses and occupations of parents.

Hugh Watkins...
what date was it issued?

my granny Florence Lapham nee Evans got a short certificate when she was
14 to show to her first employer she could leave school legally and
begin as a tobacco packer for Wills of Bristol

Steve Hayes...
A certificate of Registry/registration is not the same as a short birth
certificate.

The former is simply to show that one has complied with the requirement to
register the birth.
