Peter...
Can anyone please tell me the quickest and cheapest source to purchase a
B.M.D. Certificate.

Charles Ellson...
England and Wales - go (or post) to the appropriate register office.
Scotland - Ditto, or use Scotlands People (1 UKP per page) for older
records.

Charani...
Cost (£7) is the same from either the GRO online, FRC or from the
relevant register office.

The GRO are still running at around 3 weeks from order to delivery
(although some people are having to wait longer for whatever reason)
so a register office is quicker. I've seen reports of a turnround
almost by return *but* *but* it depends which office you're applying
to. Some will not issue certificates for family history reasons, and
some are taking up to 2 weeks.

If you can call into the FRC, or ask a friend/relative to do so, then
you might be able to get a faster turn round.

Going elsewhere other than the GRO, FRC or a register office is not
advisable, even if they do claim to be the "official" source!! They
seem to charge anything from £25-£60 *per certificate*.

Thanks, Pauline
