I cannot decipher the occupation of my ancestor William Holmes, on previous
certificates he was a Shoemaker.
The area is Slapton Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire.

Perhaps someone could view the following link?

Bob, the word has been explained as Cordwainer.

If you web-search for Cordwainer you will find an enormous amount of fascinating
information (the word comes from Cordova in Spain where classy leather came
from).

Graeme Wall...
Cordwainer, very posh shoemaker

Vivien Rice...
Cordwainer - formerly a commonly used word for shoe/boot maker.

Ye Old One...
Yep, very clearly "cordwainer".
