jamps...
I'm sure this has been asked before so please don't bite my head off!

Will you please tell me which are the Welsh counties of GLS & MON?

Don Aitken...
GLS is Gloucestershire, which is in England, not Wales.

Charles Ellson...
That assumes the "official" abbreviations are being used in whatever
unspecified material is being looked at; if they're not and someone
has just used what looks right, it could be Glamorganshire which IIRC
should be GLA.

Thank you Charles.
The information came from someone who 'should know what he is doing'.
I'm searching for records in 1698 and am completely stuck. The Welsh
reference could be clutching at straws but................!
Janet.

MON is Monmouthshire, which had a special status of its own, being in
England for some purposes and Wales for others. It has been part of
Wales since 1974.

Thank you Don.

TIA,
Janet.
