Can anyone read the occupation of Ethel Surcombe in the 1901 census?
The full reference is
RG13/2864, enum. dist. 84, fol. 73, p. 11, sched. 58
The first word is "Chocalate" (sic). The second starts with an "M", but
a tally clerk has written "Cocoa" over it and then crossed that out so
that only a few fragments of the original remain visible. The word
looks too short to be "Maker" as in "Paper Box Maker" on the line
above. And there may be the dot of an "i" visible, unless it's an
inkblot. Any ideas?

It looks to me as if it might be "Chocolate Maid".

Was the expression "chocolate maid" actually used? If so, what did it
mean?

A waitress in one of those "temperance" bars where they only served
tea/coffee/chocolate?
