Dave Moore...
First, my sincere thanks to:
Martina, Jill, Lesley, C Rihan, Jenny, Lionel, Jeff, Deb and Don for
responding to my post "Where do I go next?" You gave me lots to do!

Many of my ancestors bore he name 'Hustings', I was told at an early
age that it was given to the first born male; it is one of my christian
names.
I learnt from my GG Grandfather's Police Pension records that he was
born at Mile End on 07/11/1810 and that his parents names were Hustings
and Margaret. So the directions you all pointed me in appear to be
correct.

There were two entries for the marriage between Hustings and Margaret
in Alverstoke, Hampshire; one dated 06/06/1806 and the other
06/06/1807. Can I inspect the films referred to at LDS? Will they
glean any further information? e.g. Parents names on the marriage
document?

Jeff...
Make sure you order films of the Register, not of an index compiled from it.

Normally, the only additional info you will get is the names of the
witnesses. Often these are parents or siblings.

John Cartmell...
Parents names, addresses, trades, witnesses names - all can help confirm that
you have the correct entry and give confirmatory links to other information .

Or show you that you've got the wrong one! ;-)

Jeff...
Indeed they can but on the preprinted forms used at that time it is rare
indeed for Parents' Names (unless they are witnesses), addresses or
trades to appear.

One maddening thing is that relationships are not usually stated. So if
bride is Jane Smith and a witness is John Smith you can't be certain
whether John is a father or brother.

John Cartmell...
I understand that Quakers get all witnesses to sign. I encourage friends to
produce wedding/baptismal/anniversary &c albums including photographs and
comments from friends and relatives including references linking names and
photographs and with a family tree included.

But we're stuck with *very* limited information. ;-(

Thanks again,
Dave Moore
