Julie Meikle...
I have signed up for 50 units, but this site is so slow and seems to be
eating units whilst I have not actually viewed anything! No refunds I bet.
I will not buy more....compared to Scotlands People it is awful!
There must be a trick.....what am I missing? I can't believe they are still

Tids...
They only charge for "views" so if you've not viewed
anything then something is not right. I think there is
a contact email address on the site. Might be worth
asking them about it.

in business!

Ken Clark...
I had this problem which I assumed was because of the volume of traffic.
On some occasions the pointer shape changed (although the page was still
blank) and I tried a download, which surprisingly, saved the detailed
page even though the viewed page was blank!

David J Grimshaw...
Hi Julie,
I take it that you have downloaded the

DjVu Viewer Plug-in this is a viewing program that works with your
browser and can be found on the 1837 online site, just click on
Downloads and then select your Operating system ( OS ).
Hope this helps.
As to what others say about this site and the use of credits to view a
record they are correct and this site could take a leaf out of the
Scotland's people's site, with Scotland's People if you view a record
you can go back a view it as many times as you like over a fairly long
period at least more than three months.
1837 online charges you for the same image on each visit to the site, so
it is a case of save the image and if the image is faulty you still pay
and get not refund, again Scotland's People wins this contest of being
professional.
Yes the military views do cost ten credits and you get no more
information that what you would get at Commonwealth War Graves
Commission and this is free on the CWGC site.

Hope this is of some help.

Julie Meikle...
Yes have the viewer.... the census web site was running OK!

Charles Ellson...
If you're seeing the index pages then you are viewing what is offered.

Tids...
Might I just say I think charging 10 units per view for
looking at the military records is extortionate.

English registers are generally only viewable by purchasing extracts
from registrars.
