Why would you correct your marriage certificate?

Hello everyone.
My g-grandmother was married in 1895. She re-married in 1905 and gave her
maiden name and marital status as "spinster". Then in 1911 she had the
second marriage certificate amended to give her first married name and her
marital status of "widow". I can't for the life of me think why anyone
would need a marriage certificate to show that they'd been married before,
but there must be a reason.

Perhaps it was just an error.
Some people might not like their husband being "removed from history" like
that.

Can anyone think of a reason?
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Maybe someone found out that she had fiven false information and thjreatened
to prosecute.

Or something less scandalous like taking years to notice that whoever
recorded the details had written the wrong information. Another
possibility could be to avoid any trouble the misdescription might
cause if she was liable to inherit a legacy directed at her late
husband.
