Just a heads up about a potentially interesting new series on Channel 4
at 8pm tonight in which Ian Hislop will be looking at the stories behind
the names on various local war memorials ..... at least good background
stuff for the most of us who had ancestors in WW1 ......

I wonder how much this programme was triggered by his taking part in the Who
do you think you are? -- he seemed quite profoundly affected by that in
the end.
Should be very interesting

Was an OK prog; quite touching in parts.
Just been trying to get on the lost generations site they mentioned at
the end of the prog ....... just times out or crashes !

I found zero records for Bowle & several other names when I accessed the
site using the latest version of Firefox. As a control request I tried
Smith & again zero results.
Immediately afterwards I used the latest version of Explorer & found
pages of Smiths, and 24 Bowler and Bowles entries.
I have reported this to the site.

The site has been up for about a week and I found it pretty useless
.....kept being unable to find fairly common names from my ancestors
....:-( It's sure to be busy for a bit after the prog ...)
But the programme was QI .... sad about the vandalism .....
