Surely you are not seriously suggesting that the food served up in a
motorway service station is typical of British food, are you? Anyone who
even thinks of eating in one of those places needs their head examining!
London is crawling with restaurants of every type and nationality and it is
perfectly possible to find a decent meal reasonably priced, even if most
of us can't afford to eat at The Ivy. I could take you to a restaurant near
Victoria Station that serves the most delicious British regional dishes,
i.e. from various counties, and also has an extensive list of local ciders,
along with the wine, to wash it down with. I could take you to pubs in
Yorkshire and elsewhere that serve the most superb "pub grub" and
cheaply, too.
I've had some lousy meals in America and I've had some fantastic ones,
too, provided you keep well away from McDonalds and that kind of
garbage. The last time I went to the States I couldn't believe how many
grotesequely obese people I saw waddling along the streets of
Philadelphia, including kids who looked like King Kong. Britons
overweight? Ye gods!

All I have to say about USian food is "Taco Bell".

To condemn the food of an entire country on the basis of one lousy meal
in a service station is patently absurd.
