A while ago on this list I remember a discussion about males missing from
some parishes on the IGI. Unfortunately that is as much as I took in and I

That thread was to do " mainly" with BATCH No s "I".
they are strange batches for which I almost have the answer.
I will advise that when verified to the group.

If you have a local library or FHS that still has the old LDS fiche, the
male entries are on them (at least the ones for my areas of interest are).
They got lost un the upload to the web.

have now come across one such parish where I need to find a male birth.
Could anyone let me know how to proceed from here please.

I deleted your 2nd. message so replying on this one.
Money is NO Problem at LDS F.H. Centres.
Just ( about) 3 quid to RENT the film for a month.
A Donation jar for your "finds".
As for location ,you may one of the poor souls who has to travel 10/20
miles.

some folks, even in smaller countries like the UK, have to travel over 100
miles each way and then have obligations which mean that this is not a
journey one is ever able to do for indulgence. The LDS might well be
confined to SLC for all the chances some of us are going to get to explore
their hidden depths for many years to come.
thank you for being so generous with your time and expertise to help Saffy
but a little less sarcasm helps too.

So being "lucky" in regard to location & being a willing sod,
give me the
1. surname (s).
2. town or village concerned.
3. I will look to see what "may" be available & do your groundwork.
4. Actually you would only "need" to go to LDS F.H.C.
to ( a) Order the Film.
(b) To view a film.
5. will explain (4a) later if you reply.

Thanls for your kind offer Ken. It is the travel distance and time that is
the problem as I have four young children who are my first concern. Our
local FHS has moved recently so is not accesible to me atm.
I was looking for William Blue of Saddell and Skipness in Kintyre (he lived
in Carradale I think). He would have been born about 1812. If you have
access to these records I would be very grateful if you would look him up
for me.

Further to my e mail regarding "viewing" Film # 1041076 or
alternatively # 102384, my other thought was Indexes of
Church Records (i.e. transcriptions).
I had the thought that my LDS Library may have these ( held
permantly).
Fiche COMMENCE with (numer.) 6.
Unfortunately6900467 Bapts.& Christenings 1756 - 1855 (2 fiche.)
6900468 Marr. ditto.
are not in Braeside's listings.
These PATRON Fiche stay in the Library in which they were ordered.
The Films & Fiche should give you more info. on others in the family,
possibly (if they were all in this area).
I should make it to the Library tomorrow on a day of (exp.) 22 deg.
and check the OPR for you.

That would be fantastic Ken. I have reason to believe that this William is
tied in to my maternal line but haven't been able to prove it (yet) and
would love to know his parents if possible. I have tried Scotland's People
and not found anything so am not sure if he appears in OPR's but I have my
fingers crossed. All my Blues seem to have stayed in Saddell and Skipness
parish until relatively recently.

Thank you for going to the trouble of looking Ken. It amazes me the
generosity of people sometimes. It also amazes me that I live in the West
of Scotand yet someone on the other side of the world is able to find out
information about something which is really only a few miles from here.

Just to "confuse" you. my LOT came from AUCHINLECK/MUIRKIRK/CUMNOCK.
We have been there ( 1996) & we were
pleased of the assistance we received from Anne GEDDES & staff,
(Dick & Baird Institutes) Kilmarnock & New Cumnock, together with NON
rellies with my
surname in Ayr & Largs & lastly Jim Steel.
So the wheel turns around sometimes.
In your case - lucky you.
Braeside LDS is Australian Scottish bastion, records wise & when I
retired I spent every Thursday ( Scottish Civil Reg. Films) for just
on three months SOLID researching for our lines.
So make every effort to Order & View Film 1041076.
With its coverage it will Gobsmack you I feel.
