A week or so ago I went to look at FreeReg and was told that Searching
wasn't available in my area for about 24 hours. A few days ago I
happily performed a few searches. A few minutes ago I was told that
Searching wasn't available in my area for about 70 days.

Same here. I'm in one of those areas where access was originally
promised in 84 days. Then about a week ago I got access to the search
for one day. Now availability is back to 70 days.

I was in the 60-70 day bracket a week ago, now I get "Access will be
available from your location in approximately 19 days". How time flies!

It is all down to your ISP netblocks.
I'm glad to say that all access times have just been reduced significantly.

It sound like "my area" meant the area you were looking at not where you
live.
