Budgie...
Edward Parkinson was born about 1826 in Bolton. He married Margaret Chapman
(b.abt.1832) of Manchester and had children James Edward (b.1856 Dudley),
William (b.1858 Wellingborough) and Mary Ann (b.1861 Kings Lynn).

I can find no birth reference for James, or a marriage reference for Edward
and Margaret.

I can find neither parent in the 1851, and don't have access to the 1841.

All help gratefully received!

Great

Budgie...
Just my luck - I was hoping for some lead to his parents.

However - thanks very much for the info.

Steven Gibbs...
You seem to have rather a lot of information, with little documentation.
Can you tell us the sources of what you do know? I found the family in
1861, but not in 1871. I'm guessing that you're making assumptions that
might be wrong.

If you can't find the marriage, or the birth of the eldest child, in the
indexes, something is wrong. How do you know (without a birth
certificate) that James Edward is Edward's son? Could Margaret have
been married before, and married Edward under a name other than Chapman.
Where do you get the name Chapman from? Presumably one of the other
children's birth certificates.

Budgie...
I have the following information

William Parkinson was born 1858 (GRO 1858d 3b 146 Wellingborough)

Steven Gibbs...
But you don't know that Margaret was his mother.

1861 RG9/0963 F80 P2

Edward Parkinson Head 34 Bolton, Lancs

Margaret Parkinson Wife 28 Manchester, Lancs

James Ed. Son 4 Dudley, Staffs

William Son 2 Wellingborough, Northants.

Mary Ann was born 1861. (GRO 1861c 4b 339 Kings Lynn) Her birth certificate
gives Margaret's maiden name as Chapman

Margaret died 1866 (GRO 1866d 11a 98 Pontypool)

Edward married Emma 1868 (GRO 1868d 11a 193 Pontypool)

Steven Gibbs...
I think you need this certificate for information on Edward's father. I
think you need William's birth certificate too. I know it's expensive
and probably won't tell you anything, but, on the other hand, if there
are remarriages in this, it may tell you everything.

Budgie...
Unfortunately, I reluctantly agree with you. I will order them - with any
luck they'll turn up before the summer holidays!

Have you checked the marriage indexes right up until 1861?

Budgie...
I believe so, although it was a while ago.

You're quite right, of course, in that James Edward might not be Edward's
son. However, I can't see a way to check if can't find the birth reference.
