All those with online Family Trees

Mark...
Just a quick gripe and reminder for all those that have a Family Tree
online somewhere. And I apologise to those that do the right thing.

If someone emails you with a possible connection, PLEASE, PLEASE have
the curtesy to email them back. Even if you believe there is no link.

I have contacted at least 10 or 12 people about ancestors on there
tree over the last 3 months,(most on Ancestry.com). Some were GG or
GGG grandparents and I could have offered them information, but to
date I have only recieved one email in reply.

I honestly can't see the point of putting a family tree online if you
have no intention of sharing information!

Well, a fair point when you are only publishing your immediate family
or one specific family name, but what if you put a "large" database
online, available for others to browse and look at your sources?

I have a pretty large online database, and I personally know less than
1% of the people in the database - However, every record I place online
has a complete list of all the sources used - almost all of which are
(in theory) available to others. If someone has a question regarding
any of the individuals in my database, they can go and check the
original sources, instead of contacting me ... the way I see it - I
have done my part.

Unfortunately sometimes it is impossible to respond to all when you get 30
messages a day like I did when I put my tree on genesereunited many along
the lines of "I saw you had a Mr.White - my grandmother was Miss White- is
there a connection?" (the huge problem with genesreunited is that they don't
give places in the index searches or other sensible info like parentage).
