Lyndon...
One of my ancestors was a labourer in 1841 and a farmer of 18 acres in
1851.. Between these two dates his wife inherited the sum of £50. Would that
be enough to explain this change in staus?

Hugh Watkins...
did the wife have a widowed mother?

farmer's widows were popular and the tenancy might have passed down in=20
that way

or who was the employer?

Hugh W

Lyndon...
Thanks for your thoughts, Hugh.

Haven't found the wife's mother yet, so not sure what happens up there. The
£50 came from her widowed sister, and I'm still trying to unravel that bit.

But hadn't thought of checking the tenancy prior to ancestor. I'll put that
on the to-do list!
