Tracy Dunne...
I have a photograph taken in 1905 of a young man dressed in what looks to be
his best (working?) outfit and taken on his 21st birthday.

He is wearing a small bowler type hat, tipped slightly to the back of his
head at a jaunty angle. Light colour riding type trousers although not
jodhpurs, boots which finish below the knees and slightly gathered above
ankles. A thick wollen looking jacket, dark colour and holding what appears
to be a small crop.

His four button jacket is done up by the top button only and his waistcoat
beneath (dark colour) shows he is also wearing a chain, possibly a
watch. Also a white collered shirt and light colour neck tie.

The backdrop is a screen covered in fabric with small daisies printed on it
and two rather grand lace curtains hanging the length of the screen and
gathered at each side. It is taken outside and you can see he is standing on
grass.

Would I correct in thinking he was possibly a coachman or some other
occupation involving stables? Or it this just the type of outfit that would
have been supplied and worn for the purpose of having a photograph taken?

It has the name of the photographer printed on the front of the card it is
mounted on, but sadly does not give an area or any other details.
Photographers name is Frederick Clayton.

Since the subject of the portrait was born in Chelsea, it may have been in
the London area, but since I cannot find him there in the 1901 census yet,
he may well have moved and been somewhere else.

Any tips regarding the identification of photographs would be appreciated,
since this is one that has me stumped.
