One of my cousins emigrated from England to North America and enlisted
in the US Cavalry. He had a habit of twisting the truth.
On his enlistment papers of 1905 he gives his "father's" address in
London as his ICE contact but the address doesn't look English.
The road he gives does exist and is about a 5 min walk from where his
mother and stepfather were living in 1901, although the style isn't
English. This could just be down to it being an American who was
taking down the information and putting it in the style he was
familiar with - or it could be another distortion of the truth.
Can someone please clarify whether the numbering is correct or not
and, if not, have a guestimate as to what it should be??

Charani: Someday, we might bury Albert Edward for good! Anyway, the
number appears to be 1925 and Sta for Station. I would characterize
the "2" as a flying "2" normally used by mid-century accountants,
clerks, etc. Numbers appear anywhere else on the page written by this
same person?

The number does look a bit odd. Perhaps 19 f 5 - short for Number 19
Floor/flat 5

I wondered if it was something along those lines: Rm19 of 25 Goding
Street, although the St or Str looks more like Sta, ie Station.
Vauxhall Station is at one end but . . . .

Goding Street seems to have been numbered 1-54. So your guess is as good
as mine. Perhaps a renumbered 'terrace' or 'villa' etc and he wasn't sure
of the new number...somewhere between 19 & 25? Goodness knows.

Thanks for confirming that the road was short. Renumbering sounds
plausible. The address had been #19 but became #25 as a result of a
couple of new houses being built. I doubt the buildings will be the
same now as they were in 1905.

I should have mentioned that the data I quoted was as at 1929 (List of the
Streets & Places within the Administrative County of London).

I wouldn't have thought there would have been that much change during
that period.
Maybe a visit to the relevant record office would be helpful.
