Jan Mushroom...
My father Geoffrey Lawrence WOOLNOUGH worked for Metro-Vick before and
during WW2 in design. He was an electrical engineer.
We were told that he worked on secret projects during the war and I would
like to find out what he designed etc
Would anyone know how to find out this information?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Jan -

Metro-Vick was one of the larger electrical engineering concerns in the
UK and was concerned in many secret projects during WWII, including jet
engines, (their main design was handed over to Armstrong-Siddley and
became the successful Sapphire), radar, automatic pilots and fuses. They
were allied to British Thompson Houston (BTH), both having as their
parent company Associated Electrical Industries (AEI), although looking
at the rivalry between them no one would have believed it. GEC (the
British one) took over AEI in 1967.

John Dummelow's history of the company 1899-1949 is online at
the index, it might be a good starting point.
