I suppose it comes to us all, but I've ended up trying to find a line
amongst the Joneses of Wales :-(
The last of the line is Florrie Elizabeth JONES
Born:
1/9/1902, Hill St, Corwen MER
Father: John JONES
Mother: Lizzie JONES formerly JONES
Fathers Occupation: Groom (Domestic)

I'm assuming the informant was one of the parents, and
there was no additional clue there.
|
Married:
(as Florence JONES)
30/10/1922, St Peter, Ashton-under-Lyne
Occupation: Maid
Residence: Brookside, Matley
Husband: Alfred DODD
Father: John JONES
Fathers Occupation: Butler
Died:
(as Florrie/Florence Elizabeth DODD)
Q1 1979, Tameside, GTM
So, to attempt the impossible, I want to find the next generation back, in a
town where about half the population seem to be called JONES!
I've failed to find John and Lizzie as a couple in 1901, so it seems
possible that they married subsequent to the census.
C Rihan...
|
Yes that's possible, or one could have been visiting somewhere else on
the night.
A qucik search of the 1901 didn't find any wife Lizzie Jones in Corwen,
but there were a couple who were daughters, so she might be one of them.
The missing marriage might be in Denbigh if that's the right Lizzie.
|
There are several John JONES entries in Corwen for 1901, two of which seem
possible.
a) Aged 24, unmarried, a Domestic Groom, living at the hairdressers Shop
adjacent to the post office.
b) Aged 18, unmarried, an Under Game Keeper, living on Hill St

I'd look at all the Jones families in Hill Street....might belong to
Lizzie's
family if not to John's.
There again, if they weren't married at the time of the 1901 census, they
may not have moved to Hill St until after the census and any Jones there
might be a red herring.
|
I also can't find a marriage in Corwen. Possibly Lizzie was from elsewhere,
so no real luck there, indeed very little at all unless we widen the search
to allow Lizzie to be Elizabeth at her Marriage.
C Rihan...

Unfortunately, I think you cannot rule that out completely. She may be
Lizzie on the birth cert. but that could just be short for Elizabeth, and
she
could be Elizabeth on the census too. Some people don't believe in
shortened names and 'Lizzie' could have been corrected to Elizabeth
even if she was a Lizzie.
Have you checked for Elizabeths in the census too to see if any are
married to a John.? There may be an older couple , so the marriage
could be many years before.
|
Now, I'd like John to be (a) above, because it will be an easier family to
trace, but one must always be wary of wanting something to be right!

|
I like the look of that one too, mainly because of his occupation, but
also because he's a bit older than (b).
|
Could the Under Game keeper become a Groom, and later a Butler? If not, (a)
C Rihan...
|
Possibly he could, but it's simpler if he stayed a groom !
Best wishes
