Are services such as 1901CensusOnline and Ancestry.co.UK worth paying for?
I don't mind paying if the services are worth it.....Anyone's thoughts?

When I first subscribed to Ancestry just over a year ago I wasn't sure it
was worth it, but since then I have used it all the time and more than got
my money's worth from it, despite its quirks referred to by others. I don't
think there's any point in using the 1901 Census Online as well, as I don't
think it's got anything that Ancestry hasn't.

the old 1901 helps with searching with occupations and addresses
as a freebie
then back to ancestry to search a district newly defined
Descritpion of District images are also a freebie for non-subscribers
to 1901 on line

Whether or not anything is "worth it" depends on what you want to get
out of it.
I have an annual subscription to Ancestry and there is rarely a day when
I do not access the site for one reason or another. I would not be
without it.
I like to collect all the Census information that I can for all the
people that I have in my family file (nearly 1800 at the last count, but
many born post-1901, of course.) In collecting that information I
discover loads of parents and siblings and other relations. (Subject to
confirmation, of course.)
FreeBMD is a wonderful resource, but if I can't find what I'm looking
for there I take the more time-consuming route of trawling through the
BMD indexes on Ancestry. Access to these is free, so very good value!

Do as much as you can before signing up. You can do quite a lot using the
free sites like FreeBMD, Familysearch etc I managed to get my tree back to
1812 without Ancestry but I needed the 1901 census and quite a few
certificates along the way. I also had a lot of family info.
