Ancestral Trails is well spoken
of.

In my opinion 'The Family Tree Detective' by Colin D. Rogers is a better
book than 'Ancestral Trails', and much cheaper. It may be out of print but there
are plenty of second hand ones available.

Jeff...
I have both. I'd agree on price but I don't think there is
any comparison as to content. Ancestral Trails is far more
comprehensive. However, I must admit it has much information
on early periods which is not likely to be of use to a
beginner.

However, it is my experience that some books have too much content for
the average beginner -- it overwhelms you and you give up.

Charani...
"Family Tree Detective" is one of the first genealogical books I
bought and found it very useful.
