Phil C....
I recently ordered three books from Lincs library service. The first
was pretty obscure and cost me 2 pounds 50p for an out-of-county loan.
The second was also 2.50 although it was on the American best seller
lists a while ago and has been turned into a film. Both quickly proved
to be useless for my purposes, though there was no way I could have
known that without looking. The third they bought in specially for me
at a cost of over 20 pounds - and charged me 25p! Needless to say, it
turned out to be useful.

Does anybody else have to pay 2.50 for Inter Library Loan books?

Charani...
Libraries in Somerset charge 90p for Inter Library Loans but can be
more if they've had to really hunt around and bring a book in from
elsewhere in the country; 75p in county loans and 60p if reserved
online. Children's reservations are free.

One book that I wanted that was obscure and out of print came from
Southampton University Library for which I was charged 90p only.

I belong to a library in Dorset as well but have never had cause to do
an inter library loan from them so far so I don't know what they
charge. The Somerset library is very amenable ;))

Mike...
In Bedfordshire its 90p for in-county plus £1.00 for Laser loans
Children's requests free.

Is the moral of this to prevail upon one's children to make all requests
for you in their names?

Eve McLaughlin...
As long as they don't ask for that well-known school story, Miss
Floggy's Academy? Or The Story of a Boy.

Mike...
Unfortunately the system "knows" if you are requesting on a child's ticket
or not.

andrew...
D'd clever, these library computers.

Peter Goodey...
I think I paid 75p last time I did it. That was about a year ago though.

Graeme Wall...
Varies from county to county, Southampton and Hampshire charge 1.50 for ILL
and 75p for in county.

CWatters...
According the Hants council it costs the library between £5.30 - £6.35. They
only charge about £1 more.

Not unusual for University libraries to charge between £3 and £8.

Eve McLaughlin...
You normally pay the cost of the postage for a loaned book. So that
seems like a small sum for part of the postage only internally. They
presumably also decided these books were not worth having in stock. When
you ordered the third one, probably someone said 'oh, that would be
useful to have permanently' -so you were only charged the cost of the
botifying postcard/letter second class.
